watches, observing what’s out
there. Is that a bird?
“You’re a neophyte.” “But I’ll learn.”
My date strutted in. Long night.
She gingerly picked up broken glass.
She missed dancing. Only memories now.
I listened. Faint heartbeat. Still alive.
“There’s no panacea for my pain.”
The egg began to crack open.
“Dad has dementia. I’m his proxy.”
